Carpet: don’t skimp on cushion
Cushion affects feel, quietness, resilience and life — and some carpet warranties hinge on the cushion grade.
Hardwood: factory vs. on-site finish
Factory finish installs faster without dust and odor; on-site finishing gives a closer color match to existing woodwork.
Tile: subfloor is critical
Ceramic needs a proper subfloor system; glaze ratings above 3 suit most residential rooms.
Rigid-core vinyl
